The Answer to Egypt Quiz #4

Here's Jeff's answer for the quiz in the last blog entry:

The correct answer is that the painting by Vincent Van Gogh called “Poppy Flowers” was stolen from the Mahmoud Khalil Museum in Cairo on August 21.  With an appraised value of $50 million, this marks the second time that the painting was stolen from the Mahmoud Khalil.  The first was 1978 – it was recovered in Kuwait two years later.

It is believed to be an inside job.  Only 7 of 43 security cameras were working at the time.  Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Mohsen Shalaan, who oversees the country’s museum security, is being tried for “negligence and professional delinquency.”
